CONCILIATION COUNCIL
PLASTBREKS' DISPUTE.
The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. J. R, Triggs) ■ heard the plasterers dispute yesterday. - After sitting all day, all .agreement was reached on all points ivith the' exception of wages. r .Lhw matter will have to come before the Arbitration Court. Mr. W. A. Grenfell was agent Tor the employers, whose assessors were Messrs. P. .Foley, H. Mainland, ami .T. Kent. Mr. L. M. A. Keardon appeared for the union, the assessors being Messrs. T. Burkett, li. J. Ituddell, and W. H. Smith.
The employees asked for a reduction in working hours from 45 to -li per week, and this was agreed to. Oil the recommendation of the Council it was decided to include tiling and cement llooring in the definition of work. The agreement as far as overtime is concerned remains as at present. The usual preference clause and status Of apprentices were also agreed to.. In addition to the question of wages matters concerning suburban and country work have been referred to the Arbitration Court.
Wages amounting fo Is. IIHd. per hour were asked for by the employees. The employers could not see their way clear hi grant this request, and offered Is. 7Jd.. the rate ruling in other centres. The' question of a war bonus was not entertained bv .the employers' representatives who pointed out that if it was granted a corresponding increase would have to be made in other brunches of the trade.
