FINDING AVOBK FOR THEM. This following progress statement of the work of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department as nt .Tuly 1!) lias boon issued by the Minister (the lion. A. L. Herdman): — (I) Total number of men 011 register-*, (a) Disposed of, 3236; (b) under action, 1138; (c) .not ready fo- action (including men returned by rcceut transports), 7SS; total, 51511. (II) Reports received from interviewing officers, 3721; reports in hands of interviewing officers, 220. reports issued, 31150. (III) Particulars showing how eases dealt with:-(A) Cases -disposed 01"—(a) Left New Zealand or cannot ascertain address, 111); (b) llc.-enlistcd or returned to .military duty,.or have work to return to, etc., 1:123; (c)'.,.\:on who, have signed, "assistance not required," 830; (d) men who have not responded to repented communications, and men who have 'accepted work tlie Department found for them but failed to,start worlc, 1-1S; (f) men who have drawn sections-of land, Kifi; total, 321i5. - (B) Cases under action:—(a) Reports upon cases not yet returned by officers .making inquiries, 2211; (b) awaiting further advice (chiefly moil who have stated that they are not yet desirous of work), 558; (c) at present 011 eninloynient wanted register, 351; total, U3S. '(C) Cases not ready for action Men; recently returned to Sew Zealand, now convalescing, not ready for employment, and not yet discharged by-the military authorities, 756; grand total, 5151). The seven unplaced men in the Wellington district this week desire employmerit as follows:—Light work, G; inillcer, 1.
