THE BELGIAN CHILDREN'S RELIEF FUND

LOUD MAYOR OF KOSBOK'S APPEAL TO THE SCHOOLS. Sir,—lt was stated in a recent issue of Tin: Dominion that the Wellington Education District Committee had decided not to publish the amounts raised towards the ;iliove fund bv the different schools of the district. This decision curries out the well-known principle associated with true charity. "Take lieod t-hat you do not your alms .before men lo be seen of them"—a principle which it is almost as important to inculcate in the minds of our scholars as that given in the words: "Be merciful after thy power; if thou hast much, give plentCL'tisly; if thou hast little, do tlij- diligence gladly to.give of that little." .Twig, nig by two contributions to Thursday's Dominion', some teachers are not carrvii'3 out the spirit of this decision, but nreaallowiug the amounts raised by their scholars to be published. This is to be regretted, as some schools arc more favourably situate,! than others. This i* i Osnecially applicable to the 'different schools of a lane town, and it is also in these schools that there is the dancer, by the publication of "tables of result*" <111 every possible occasion of fostering in the ttiimls of scholars ami teachers a spirit quite opposed to that of charilv.— T am, etc., 31.
