' Referring to the- price of gas yesterdav, the (Mayor of. Petone (Sir. J. W. M'Bwan)-stated that in .spite of the continued rise'in the price of coal (which meant an. additional expenditure of ap T proximately .£7OO pel- annum) lie did not anticipate a rise in the price of gas to consumers, but in the event of the additional, expenditure rising to double the above amount the policy of the council might require to be reviewed'. At present, however, lie preferred to carryforward a debit balance to future years rather than' raise the price. .
