BATES DECLARED. A special meeting of the Hutt County Ccnncil was held yesterday afternoon, Mr M. AV. Welch presiding. In addressing the .council before the rates were declared, Mr. Welch stated that the.overdraft at tho bank amounted to over .£8000; and that besides that amount all the ridings were overdrawn to amounts of / three or four hundred pounds. He was in favour of increasing the rate for this year, as there were also iiieveascd rates to pay ill connection with th'o Hospital Board and a few other things. Councillors generally agreed with the chairman that the rates should be increased. The rates were accordingly struck as from September 16, and vo payable in one instalment, w'licli will increase by ten per cent, if not paid by March 30, 1917.. The rates for the different ridings are: AVainui-o-mata Riding, Ud. in the Waiuui, IW. in the .£: Whareroa, lid. in the'JJ; Mungaroa, l{d. in the X; Horolciwi. ljd. ill the £; and Epuni, ljd. in the £. It was decided that the limit of tho overdraft at the bank be fixed at .£BOOO.
