July 20, 10.20, p.m.) Sydney, July 20. Tho following are tho final figures in the liquor referendum:— Sis o'clock 347,494 ' Seven o'clock ' 4,830 Eight o'clock 21,134 Nine o'clock 178,642 . Ten o'clock 1,445 Eleven o'clock 3,193 ■ Tho men voters outnumbered tho women .by 36,116. The absolute majority required to give effect to any hour was 278,450, and six o'clock closing was carried with a surplus of nearly 70,000 votes. VEILED DISEASES CAMPAIGN OF ERADICATION. ' (Kec. July 20, 10.25 p.m.) • Sydney, Jul/ 20. The report of the committee which lias boen inquiring into the causes of death and invalidity, recommends the Federal Government to make it unlawful for anyone, who is not a legally qualified medical practitioner, to treat for venereal disease; every sufferer to be required to consult a doctor, who must notify an appointed health authority, the latter having power to intern until cured cases not receiving medical attention; the prohibiting of advertisements of remedies; if an infected person marries without previously informing tho other party, such act to bo a ground for a decree annulling tho marriage, provided that aotion be taken within one year after marriago, the children thereof to be legitimate. THE COLLIERIES TIE-UP. MASS MEETING OF PROTEST. (Kec. July 20, 10.25 p.m.) Sydney, July 20. Mass meetings of the colliors at Maitland, Lambtoii, West Walisend, and Wollobgong, carried resolutions protesting against tho failure of tho proprietors to grant an S-hour bank-to-bank agreement. ITEMS IN BRIEF. RAIN BY WIRELESS. Sydnoy, July 20. Mr. Balsillio ,tho wirelesß export, ban stated that ho has proved conclusively that rain can be stimulated by electrical means. His experiments have proved that at least 30 per oent. of stimulation can bo maintained. He emphasised that .lie does not claim tD prnduco rain, but only to stimulate liuht falls.
