NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE
The executive of the alliance met yesterday afternoon, and as part o.f its business adopted the following resolutions:— Transfer of License.—"That we enter 011 emphatic protest against the notion uf the Bay of Plenty Licensing Comjuitteo granting a transfer of a license from Ohiwa, near Opotiki, to Jlanutahi. in the Tuparoa district, between East Cape and Gisborne, ami believing the action is in contravention of the licensing law, wo request tho Minister of Justice to have the matter inquired into, and if found to be illegal to have the said liconso quashed, and if it bo necessary then to have legislation passed this cession, which will prevent further abuses in this way." Dry Canteen, Samoa.—"That we tender our hearty congratulations 10 OoionM Logan, Administrator of Samoa, lor his successful efforts in abolishing the 'wet canteen' when he found that it worked for the injury of the soldiers .viu M'& there for the defence of the Empire." Six o'eloci: Closing.—"That 'wo are strengthened in our conviction of the need for six o'ciock closing of liquor Iwrs (luring the war period by every phase of evidence which i-omes. before us. Having corresponded with the Mayois of 'jic (it) largest boroughs in the Dominion, and having received answers from 50 of them, and finding that while 15 of them prefer not to give specific answers, only U are opposed, and 2!) arc heartily in favour of closing at six, we further upon the Government tho great national duty of legislating at once to secure tho closing of liars at G p.m., or else provide for 11 referendum by which the people can decide for G, 7, 8, !), or 10 as the closing hour, which decision may become effective without a day's unnecessary delay."
