HOSPITAL LEVIES
CONFERENCE THIS EVENING. A conference of contributing bodies is to bo held 111 the Town Hall this evening to see if something cannot be done to curb the rising cost of hospital and elniritabln aid work in Wellington. The business is formally set out as "a discussion. of tho cost of maintenance and administration of hospital and charitable aid in the Wellington district, • with a *iew to reducing the proportion of same payable by the contributing local authorities." The remits to be considered are as follows-. — ■. ! From Makara County Council—"That the Hospital authorities be requested to annually furnish, to each contributing local authority coniidcntial information with .respect to the names of each patient admitted to the Hospital for treatment, the fee paid by each patient, and the amount, if any, due by the patient to the Hospital; also the names of those persons -who are receiving charitable aid and tile amount each receives." .Karori Borough Council—"That section 12 of tho Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act; 1909, bo repealed, and ' that election of representatives be placed jn the hands of contributing local bodies on the same system ns was in vogue before the coming into force of the present Act." , levin Borough- Council—"That in the opinion. of this conference the whole of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards of the Dominion should be nationalised, as by this means a more equitable basis of expenditure would 'be obtained throughout the Dominion.'' Lower Hutt Borougn Council—"That tho'Government subsidy to hospital and charitable aid boards should be 20s. in the £"; (2) "That the subsidy to sanatoria under the control of hospital and charitable aid boards should bo 245. in the J!"; (3) "That the Government subsidy to hospital and charitable' aid boards for capital expenditure should be Sfls. in tho. £"; (<) "That tho control and maintenance of all indigent children in tho Dominion should bo undertaken by tho. State."
