A major, returning very late to a training camp one dark night, was challenged by a zealous sentry doing his first bout of, sentry-go, nnd proud of his responsibilities. Then the major fouiid that he had forgotten the necessary password. So tho enthusiastic sentry barred, his way. "Don't bo absurd, mj- man!" said tho major, iu a nonc-too-gontlo voice. "You know mo woll enough. I'm Major Blank." "Afraid 1 can't let you pass without the word, sir." "13ut, confound you, man, I tell yon I've forgotten it!" "Sorry, sir; not my fault sir! Must have the password." "But, dash it, I tell you I'm' Major Blank!" "Ycssir; but it's strict orders, as you know, sir. Must have tho " Then canio a muffled voice, from a near-by tent: "Oh, for 'eaven's sake, Bill, don't stand arguing all night I Shoot 'im!"
