PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
At last evening's meeting of the.Petone Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors l'orsyth, 'Cox,' Brocklebank, Anderson, Jones, Traeman, MDougail, and M'Kenzie. ' In accepting the resignation of Councillor J. List, the Mayor referred to the services rendered to the borough by Mr. List, his remarks being endorsed, by Councillors Cox and Brocklebank. The following niotion was carried unanimously:—"That this council places on record its high appreciation of the services rendered to the borough by ex-Councillor J. W. List during his seven yeaTS of as councillor of the borough, and hopes that improved health and success may be his in "his new sphere of wort." The. Health Inspector notified a case of, diphtheria. Tho Minister of Railways, advised that tho council's request in reference to the accommodation on the 7.2!i\ a.m. train, and the use of the j>etral motor on tho Hutt lino, would receivo consideration. The resignation of Mr. H. A. Balamonntain as caretaker Of the foreshore w;as accepted. ' It was decided to borrow, 'by way of overdraft,, the sum of <-3000 for tho gas account', and a similar sum for the general account. The sewerage engineer reported that the total cost of tho work to date was X' 52,857 12s. lid. The Works Committed recommended that the scheme of planting -Norfolk pines along the beach, as already commenced, be continued with eabbago and ngaio trees.
