9 SATURDAY'S MATCHES. The principal Rugby game on Saturday was that played between University and Petone at Athletic Park, which resulted in a win l'or tho latter by 30 points to 1. Tho game was a fair one from a spectacular point of view, and the play was mostly in the University's half. In tho first few minutes Thomas (l'etone) kicked a good goal from near the twenty-five line. Then University rushed, and E. Ifiley kicked a goal. After that, beyond a few very near attempts, the play was kept in tho University half, and the following aro the scorers for the ■ Petone side:—Thomas, kicked goal from field and scored twice; Bennett, converted four scores and kicked a penalty; Tancred scored twice; Bolton scored once. The game between Selwyn and Poneke was slightly more oven, and tho former won by nine pointa to three. The playwas mostly in the Poneke half, but Poneke defended the line in good style. The scores for Selwyn were tries by Tu-rrior (2) andtltiku (one), none of which were converted, and for Poneke a try by G'. Heap. JUNIOR MATCH. The siith-class match, Oriental v. Scots College, resulted in a win for Scots College by 32 to nil, and St. James's v. Poneke a'win by the former of 22 to nil. At Petone, Oriental third -class- defeated Wellington by 18 points to 11.. Petone fifths deleated Athletic by 9 points ! .to nil. At Lower Hutt, the local fourth-class team defeated Wellington. Central by 16 points to nil. ' Poneke fifths defeated Hutt by 12 points to 5, and Hutt sisth class defeated Athletic by 20 points to nil. ■ • SOLDIERS' TEAM AT DUNEDIX. • By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, July 15.
