A RECORD TURNOVER CRIB IN FORM. SURPRISE IN THE FINAL. Fine weather prevailed for the concluding day at Trontham. ■ Tho attendance was very large, and included His Excellency 'the. .. Governor ■ and party, and several Ministers of the Crown and members of both Houses of the Legislature. Tho racing was again of a very high order, and duly one iavourite was successful during tho day., This was Bisogne, who scored, very easily,' and' is : now a firm favourito tor tha Winter Cup. The win of Patronymic in the opening event: gave F. Flynn the hurdle riders' premiership for the season, his rival, A. J. M'Flinn', failing to improve his score. Speculation was very heavy, the machine handling JG49,2G5 for the day, as against .£41,172 10s. for the eame: day last year. In the concluding event over was rung up, which is a record for the Trentliam' course. A feature of tho results was that successes wero gained ,by horses whoso numbers were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 0. There" were thirteen runners in the opening event, tho top-ireight, Golden March, being a good favourite. He stripped on the "pretty" side, and stopped badly at tho finish, after being, well plaoed in the early stages of tho race. Ormesby, Prince Delaware, and Austin were the. leading division over tho. first jnilo,..but then Patronymic ran through on the fence, and was clear-with Austin at the half-mile: . - Patronymic was first over the last fence, and ran in a comfortable winner from Austin, who was ridden right out to beat the fast-finishing Sir Solo. Portland Lady, was next, and then, cajno Amber and Avhite, St. Elmn, and. Ormesby. The nine acceptors went out for the Onslow Handicap. Bisogno paralysed tho betting, and was a very hot order. At tho start lie and Mandojinft jumped off well, and led into the course proper. A furlong 'from homo the favourite was clear of the field,, with the others in a line. The Taranaki representative won very decisively, but thero was a good contest for second placo, aJid in the last stride Cherry Blossom, displaced Mandoline. Torotoro, Black Lupin, and Sea, Lord finished in a line.
Queen's Post was at a vei'y sliort price in the Hack Steeples, for which thero were no sc-ratchings. Tho favdurito failed badly, and is evidently feeling tho eirects of the hard season-she has had. On Saturday she'was up with tho field for two miles, but in tho last part -tired badly. Over the first circuit Critic, Fond Memory, Rerekohu, and Precious Metal wore the racist prominent, with tho favourite handy, .Down- tho back Kirkby took charge, but a faulty jump lost him his place. ' At-tho six furlongs Procious Motal was tho pilot, and a furlong further on Rerekohu and Expedition foil. Over tho last half-milo tho strugglo was very keen.- and. Darby Paul, Kirkby, Critic,, and Prbcious Metal' woro together two feucos from home. ' Kirkby jumped the hencoop first; and iron, by a length, with Darby Paul a neck .in front of Critic. Precious. Metal was fourth, and "then camo Forid Memory, Queen's Post, and The Chef. ,
.Kukri, who was making his fiTst appearance at the meeting, and Aurore, who was oxpected to do better on tho improved going,,-monopolised the betting in tho Crofton Handicap, and .tho duo carried nearly . half. tlio money. 011 tho machine.-. At tho' start Rio led. Manu, whilo Auroro pot cut out. Down tho back tho favourite was lying in behind the leaders. At the half-milo Maid 0' Gowrio had. joined, Rio in tho lead, but a little further on Kukri ran past -them. At the. bottom 011,tho.'straight Sir Agnes challenged his eupromacy, and tho pair loft-the-fiold.- Inside tiio distance, the first, day&'wiiraei; assorted -himsolf, and won-vory decisively. Coral King was four lengths away, va head in front of Aurore, Maiil 0' Uowrio, and Rio.
Darby Paul was the only withdrawal from the, July Steeples,' which was tho samo fine spectacular contest as was tho principal' event on the preceding days. New York and Wirokino were both heavily rbacked,-and at tho start tho pair rah to the front, with A r ascular handy. Tho trio were well out from 'the otners tho whole way,' with Wirokino acting as .pilot,' The last-named was jumping in his usual finished 6tylo, but New York hit a couple of fences very hard. With six furlongs to go A'ascular set out to reduce AVirokino's lead, but tho latter looked like holding him safowith threo furlongs to go. However, in tho run to tho hencoop Vascular " and New York both- tackled tho leader. At tho last fence the leader ran across: Avascular, and tho latter camo ou tho outside. Now York gave n isplendid juiup, and after crossing the fence' the trio* were 60011 even. They then settled down to a hard finish, and just as they wero lighting it out Black' Sea put in a claim. Tho quartet all had their names called, and in a wonderful finish Avascular, ridden right out, won by half a. length from 'Wairokino, with-New York a neck away, ' and Black Sea a length further back. Then camo Merry Lad and Tarero. AV. Bush, who rodo the winner, excelled in his horsemanship, and was most vigorous at tho finish. He rode a ciuiot race throughout, without ever letting tho leaders get too far away from him. Merrie Lad jumped badly, but the others gaVo splendid displays. Bingforin, who had been. well in tho betting on the first two days, was neglected in the AVinter Oats, but ridden a fine race by O'Shea, he got up on tho feuco at the finish, and snatched a narrow victory. From a .beautiful start, Lady Louisa led Georgo and a packed field.- AVith two'■ furlongs gone Ofcara was in front, with George, Ladogeur, and Lady Louisa prominent 01 the others. At the half mile Ladogeur and George and Sea Lord were showing out, with the favourite, Scdd-el-Bahr, in the middle of the field. Sea Lord and George wero first into tho straight, and when in a line for homo Ladogeur commenced to falter, and Comely and Jeannot rushed up. The latter soou cried enough, and Comely went oil 1 to tackle George. In the last few strides Bingforin got up on tho fence and was a-bare length to tho good of Comely at tho finish. Georgo was close up, and then camo Twelfth Night, hoa Lord, Lady Louisa, and Ladogeur. It was a splendid race and tho position .changed several times in the straight. Crown Pearl was' tho only defection from the Final Hurdles. Pursefillcr started a hot favourite, but her great effort failed against Crib, who was in receipt of .'lib. The favourite made play for . the whole journey, but at the last f°nco Crib aud Styrax, who had moved up at the five furlongs, joined the leader, aud in a lino finish Crib wore, her dowii 011 tho post and won by half -a length. Leonta, who camo very fast, was third, and Styrax next. Sir Donald fell at tho second fence from home Iragedy King ran a better race, and was up with the leaders for a mile and a <junrtoi\ Styrax was badly'positioned in the first part, but a good run down the back carried him to second place. Crib made a greatlv improved showing and jumped much' better than on i> ednesduy, Leonta also shaped ruuch better, but Gbuit'ul was disappointnig, as was Harbour Light: ■■' For the third time the last race of tho day was woir by a rank outsider, and, as iu the case of llingform, lie was neglected •on tho machine after being well backed in his previous starts. The winner was the Gisborne-flwiied Toki, .who. had finished just outside the placed division, in his first two starts. The Pordell representative Perrier was a hot favourite, with Bomb and Golden Glade next in demand. Atthestart, Martyress showed tho way, and was first into the straight, but then Golden Glado took charge. - Half-way down, Toki joined in, and after .1 good strugglo displaced tho Hastings horse. The favourite, finished very fast in third place, with Marlyress close up.
