There was a rather startling occurence in Karangahapo Road. Auckland, on Thursday evening, about 8 p.m., when the thoroughfare is crowdcd. The bullet had apparently travelled right across the road in a flight sufficiently low to have found a billet had someone been passing at the moment, aud investigation showed that the vifla had been fired from a cellar across the road by a soldier. The police are satislied that tho niYair was an aec.idont. It is believed that while the gun was being examined it went oft', and the ricochet of the bullet carried it aoross the road.
