In the House of Commons, Mr. Asquith announced that owing to the war needs tho Government proposed the post« ponement of all holidays. The Allies' offensive, which was only beginning, required a great and continuous supply of munitions, of which there was ample at present, but of which the daily consumption was enormous. He therefore appealed to the patriotism of the workers and the public gencr. ally to postpone-their holidays in order that tho attack now brilliantly, begun' should Tie carried to a triumphant conclusion.
