Mr. I). G. A. Cooper, S.M., presidi.-fl ax the monthly meeting of the Upper Hutt Court on Wednesday, George Minchin, j who did not appear, was fined -iOs., with costs 46i., for assaulting the Town Boßi'd ranger, H. E. Whiteman, tho Magistrate stating that as. the latter was doing his duty as a public servant the assault was a bad one. 13. Watkins, J. Williamson, J. Weir, and J. Phillips were each fined 55., with 7s. costs, for allowing stock to wander on the public street. For-a. similar offence, W. Staco was convicted and ordered to pay the costs (225. 6d.). 1 In the adjourned case, J!. G. Mnrliu v. G. Southee, a claim for .£l7 Us., for tho half-share of a dividing fence, the .Magistrate stated that after viewing tha property,he was satisfied that the fence was erected in accordance with specifications, but ho considered that tlio timo taken for a. portion of its erection was : too long. Judgment was given for the | amount of J615 12*5. Gd., with costs JI2 lis., and witnesses' expenses to be allocated by tho clerk of tho court, tho cosls of viewing the property to bo equally divided between the tw.o parties. tjeo. Auckram claimed J:18 as wages for thirty days at 12s. per day for building a cottage for Leonard Phillips. The dofenco was that a contract had been made with plaintiff for the sum of .£lO. The Magistrate held that a contract had fteen made, and gave judgment accordingly. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for plaintiff, and Mr, J. S. Barton for defendant. In a judgment summons case, C. Hedges was ordered Ho pay an amount owing to G. A. Palmer, in weekly ii stalments of 2S. 6d., or in default fourteen days' imprisonment.
