MEETING 01' THE COUNCIL. The City Council mot last evening. The Mayor (Sir. ;J. P. Luke) presided, and there were present also . Councillors J. 15. Fitzgerald, W. T. Hildreth, E. A. Wriglit, SI., P. Luckie,W. H. Bennett, L. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, A. It. Atkinson, ■,!. Hutcheson, G. Frost, and W. 11. T. Barber. It was resolved that the Hataitai Electors' Association should be informed that no promise at present can be given that the work'of'removing the footpath and constructing. channelling at Upper Waitoa Koad will be undertaken. The City Valuer was instructed to negotiate .with, .the owners of certain, private property at Main Boad, Wadest'own, for the necessary land for roau widening purposes. It was agreed that the' Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association should be informed, in reply to their request for the formation of a'* footpath on the west side of the Parade, that there is no money provided on this year's estimates for .the' work, nor is the. proposal considered an urgent one in view of.the fact that the bulk of the frontages on the western side are not yet built upon. The petitioners for the extension of the electric lighting mains in Sar Street are to be informed that the work cannot bo carried out at prosent on account of the large cost involved, and the scarcity and high prices of the material required.

, The Kelburn Ratepayers' Association is to be informed that, their request for the planting of the reserve at Keiburu Pafcide opposite Springfield Terrace, will 1)6 considered when next year's estimates are being framed. i It Vas decided: "That certain rates ororiMiid since April ),. 191-1,. be refunded in view of the necessary -amendment made in the valuation roll by the Government."
