NAVY LEAGUE APPEAL

FOE SAILORS' DEPENDANTS. The newspaper appeal made by the Wellington Branch of the Navy League was published in a large number of papers outside of the' Wellington Province as well as in leading provincial papers. Personal letters were written by the lion, secretary, and lists circulated among many enthusiastic members of the Wellington Branch resident in other places, and material was supplied for looal bazaars and street collections. The results have been very encouraging. The league's thanks are due to Mr. C. M. Stroiits and the Patea and District Patriotic League, who raised ,£2!>o; to the Eed Cross Society, Juminra, .£'l2 65.; Mr. John Ayris, Mata Mata, Waikato, <£12; Union Bank manager. Palmerston North, 18s. 6d.; Mr. ,1. W. Botham, Tuainarinn, Marlborough, <£31 17s. The latter sum, at the special request of the Mayor of Blenheim, went to swoll the Marlborough total. The other amounts mentioned have all been handed by the Navy League to tho president (Mr. J. P. Luke) with other sums subscribed, for acknowledgment in tho Mayor's list. Substantial amounts collected (on Wellington Branch lists) by Wellington League members in Ilawko's Bay, Wa. nganui, Taranaki, Palmerston, and other districts, havo also been applicd'to swell funds for sailors' dependants organised locally. Ladies' committees in various centres are writing, offering to provide ca9es of clothing, and the Navy League is making inquiries of tho shipping companies as to shipment. THE MAYOR'S FUND.
