Mr. Asquith, in the House of Commons, said tho Government had- been unablo to find a practically uncontrovorsial solution of the registration and franchise question.. It was intended toappoint a select committee to inquire into tho subject. No memljor of the Govern, mont would sit on tho committee. It was qnito obvious, the Premier said, that the lifo of tho 'present Parliament must be prplonged. .' . ' Tlio House adopted proposals for tho prolongation of Parliament, and for the appointment of an independent commit--tetv to investigate the franohise.
