POLICE CASES Mr. W. G. liiddell, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's. Court yesterday morning, wnen a number of police casos were dealt with. Four first offenders for insobriety, three ot them being young women, were dealt with in the usual way, with tho exception of one young woman, who pleaded not guilty, and the police, not being ready to prove the cnarge, she was remanded till next day, but not without a protest, for she said tho police ought to have been ready to proceed. Sinco then Marshall had been convicted of other similar offences, and sentenced by the Supreme Court to 20 months' imprisonment with hard labour, and was described as an liable trial criminal by that Court. Mr. O Regan appeared for accused, who pleaded guilty, and asked that His Worship should deal with him summarily, and that tho term of imprisonment should be concurrent with the sentence accused was now serving. Mr. Riddell agreed, to this course,, and sentenced Marshall to sis months\ imprisonment, . ; William Henry James, a master baker rin Lower Taranaki Street, laid ah information against an employee,. Charles Charet, charging him with having within the last three months, from April 12 to July 8, of this year,, received .£l3 !>«. 3d. in various sums while in James's employ, and not. accounting for the amounts. Charet, who was represented by Mr. D. S. Smith, elected to be dealt with summarily. His solicitor asked that the case be remanded till July 19. This was granted, and bail was fixed at ~£4O, or two sureties of .£2O each.
