At til© 'first of the wool sales, SOU.'! bales were offered, inolutlilijf 4243 from New Zealand. Titers was a very largo attendance, and strong comjietition foi merinos, scoured, and slipes, but some hesitancy in the bidding; for greasy crossbrcds. Considering the disturbed condi tioa of tbe wool trade, the opening was surprisingly strong. There was a poor selection of merinos, but sensational, prices were bid, further advances being Tecorded, oil all sorts, of from 5 to' 7i per cent, over the closing rates of June. The crossbreds were mostly medium to inferior, while parcels of greasy wools showed some irregularity, but itho prices generally were maintained in favour of tho seller, in the liner sorts; for the shabbier parcels,- medium to lower grades the buyer benefited'by Id. poi- pound. There was a very strong market foi scoureds, the rates often being Id. in advance. There was a good demand for slipes at the full rates of last saiqs. Merino lambs, none offering; erossbreds were not materially changed.
