GOVERNMENT HUMBUG
Sir, —Why are the Government wasting so much of our vnluablo time and. money over what they term tho "Anti-Shouting Bill," a Bill that they must know full ivell will not restrict the drinking of liquor in, the very least degree. It will only compel those who are in the habit of shouting- to always keep in stock n few sixpenuy pieces, and when, on the invitation of one, four or five friends enter a hotel together, each calls for hh particular weakness. The barmaid turns her back, and on returning with tlw drinks—finds the correct number of sixpences awaiting for her on the counter. As these sixpences will be needed again shortly afterwards—when it comes to his turn again—the shouter suggests to the smiling barmaid that lie requires small change, and lifting up the silver pieces places a half-crown ih their place. Tliift little game can be repeated as often as desired, consequently the rovenno of the country will not be reduced by one farthing per annum. But the Act pleases tho "wowser/' who regards men like myself as doomed to perdition.—l am,-etc., snouTEft.
