ARRESTED MAN TRIES TO TAKE POISON. By Telegraph—i'lv-ss A-wocotinn Palmerston North, July 11, Wilhelm Julius Larson was arrested by Plain-clothes Constable Culloty to-day on a charge of failing to maintain his wife and family in the Auckland district. Ho attempted to take Ihe contents of - a bottle of poison on his way to the police station. Larsen swnUowed a little before Constable Culloty could prevent him, and iu the struggle the bottle was broken >und a- quantity of the liquid, burnt tho constable's left eye. However, he brought the man to tho police station. Dr. Burness administered an emetic to Larsen,w ho quickly recovered. It is thought that the constable will not suffer any permanent injury.
