RACING TAXATION
NEARLY HALF A MILLION IN JIVE TEARS. Delegates attending the annual meeting of the , New Zealand.;' Country Racing Clubs' 'Association last evening stressed the necessity for combination by all clubs to fight against ever increasing opposition. The president (Mr. A. Bruce) observed that racing clubs during the last five years had paid nearly half a. million. away in taxes.' He gave the following particulars:— 1911-12 ..' 74,738 1912-13 91,023 1913-1 .' 107,813 1914-15 114,493 , ■ 1915-16 179,547 Total ................. 457,613 Continuing, Mr. Bruce said that he had been reliably informed that the Railway Department estimated that the revenue derived from racing people during the last financial year amounted to .£170,000.
