« The ground was naturally very, soft at Athletic Park on Saturday .afternoon, but nevertheless some good football was witnessed. The game between . University and Orientnl grew quite exciting, and in the last few minutes the little band of spectators were rushing up aad down and barracking in .high excitement. The soldiers' game on No. 1 ground was not so interesting. UNIVERSITY V. ORIENTAL. An even, willing contast describe the game between Victoria College and Oriental. The game was a little looso, perhaps, on account of tho slippery ground, but it looked as if either side might win right 'up till the call of time. Prattplayed an outstandingly good game for Oriental, and he. scored two tries for his only scores. O'Sullivan scored 'Varsity's try, and it was converted by E. Russell. Mr. E. B. L. Reade was referee. TRENTHAM V. FEATHERSTON. C Company, Sixteenth Reinforcements (Featherston). had rather the better of their opponents, H Company, Eighteenth Reinforcements (Trentham). The game, although rather scrappy, was fast. D. Stewart (2), L. Prankish (1, converted by G. Burson), and A. Bradley'(!)., scored tries for the winners, while G. Corliss scored and.H: Langridge converted the try for Trentham. Mt. R. Evensen was referee. At Lower Hutt the local Fourths de- . feated Oriental by 6 to nil. The visiting team played with two men short. ■ ■ ■ Hutt Sixths defeated St. : James bv 28 to nil. St. James did not place a full team in the field. At Petone the local.
