BIG SCHEME MOOTED. Austfalian-New Zealand Cable Association. London, July 7. It is reported from Bradford that mo idea of the purchase by the Government of the British wool clip originated with Mr. TV. M. Hughes. It is stated that tho British authorities approached Mr. Hughes, with a view to further controlling the destination of Australian wool; also as to the" limiting of tho price. Mr. Hughes replied that ho could not recommend tho Australian Government to take action unless Great Britain Bet the example. It is bolieved in some quarters in Bradford and London that an all-rouid sohome for dealing with the Empire's wool is inevitable. : AUSTRALIA WATCHING AT THIS END. (Rec. July 9, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, July 8. With reference to the possibility of : wool shipped to Italy finding its way to ,■ tho Central Powers after tho war (mentioned by cablegram a fow days ago), Mr. Tudor (Federal Minister of Customs and Trade) says that the Australian authorities are keeping a 6harp oye on tho exports, but are not in a position to detect what is proceeding: in another part t of tlio world.
