TRIAL OF RUA
ACCUSED'S SON GIVES EVIDENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Jmy 7. To-day marked the ojiehing of the fifth week ol the trial of Una in the Supreme Court. It was the tweuly-iifth day. and sixty-five witnesses have been called? Whata Una, son cf the accused, who is awaiting trial for alleged complicity in the Mangapohatu affray, sai.d lie "was present when ihe Police Commissioner and oilier members of'the police party arrived., liua .exclaimcd "(.-inns!" and, calling but to the Commissioner "Tai'hoa!" waved his hand to the people to go back. Witness describe-;! tlio scenes at the arrest of liua, and said that up to tho time ho (witness) was taken in custody ho did not hear his father express any desire to light the police; and lie was not aware oi any preparations for hostilities. When. Rua was on the ground, he called to the police, "Shoot me." Witness blamed the police for all the trouble, and explained that he picked up an axe which was on the ground, as he thought his father was going to be killed. Several other witnesses also gave evidence.
