There is goqd authority for believing that the authorities are carefully watching the imports of, Australian wool by Italy. Considerable quantises are going into that country, and there IS'reason to fear that some lias bean bought on German account, the buyers merely waiting for the opening of Germany's dooTs for, a great a J'tor-war rush for the world's ■trade. , It is believed that large' quantities are waiting in North (South ?) America, for export to Germany. - In some quarter.? the opinion is strongly held that the Government's purchase of colonial clips at their source is . the only practical solution. It is no secret that one object of the Government's periodic conference with the wool trade is- to secure, a favourable position for ,tho after-war struggle. The next conference will be held m August. Meanwhile, the trade is disturbed lest sudden action be taken before the sales Open on July: 11.
