Mine-Sweepers' Warm Clothing Wanted. In a recent issue of the local papers there appeared an appeal to the public for warm clothing for tliß mine-sweepers in, tho North Sea, the request to tho Dominions having been, made by Lord Itadstook, President of the British anil Foreign Sailors' Society Headquarters, London. The following contributions have been mndo to date:—Mi's. AVliyte, •f balaclavas and 1 cap; from Napier, parcel of two woollen shirts and 2 .pairs socks; Mrs.. Nicholls (Bideford, Masterton), £\ and 3 balaclavas; Mrs. Bott (AVanganui), caps; Mrs. Dreyer, 1! lindei'shirts; A. M. Denton, y pair socks; .ill's. Helyer, 2 balaclavas; Miss Saunders, 1 balaclava; Mrs. Cable, 1 balaclava and scarf; It.G.D., undershirts; Edna Hnffam (aged 10), scarf; May Huffam (aged 8), cuffs; Mrs. Harrington, 2 pairs socks, 4 balaclavas; anonymous donor, jersey and scarf; Mr. C. There are a large number of workers busy knitting for this object, both in - "Wellington and tho surrounding districts. . Further lists of donations will bo acknowledged from time to time. All work up to the present has been done by women only, and it is now asked if men will help by sending cash contributions to pttrchaso wool nml ir.n* terials to make up tho required warm garments, or by sending parcels of new heavy underwear (used heavy underwear will be equally acceptable if in good re 'pair and condition). Wellington Catholic Knitting Guild. The "Wellington Catholic Knitting Guild held its montlily meeting in St. Patrick's Iliill on Wednesday afternoon, when, the large number of members present woro engaged in sewing on tlio iinnio of the guild on tho various articles. Tho secretar/s and treasurer's reports woro most satisfactory both financially and re garding the wort done, cspociallv as tho guild is only threo weeks old. _ Tlio following were sent to tho British Bed Cross Depot,. Mercer Street: 30 pairs socks, i balaclavas, 4 scarves, 2 pairs mittens, 12 face cloths, 5 pyjaina girdles, and 3 oyo bandages. ,In addition to this, 19 pairs socks and -1 balaclavas are being sent direct to the chaplains at the front for distribution. The monthly meeting of the above so. dety was held on Thursday. Present were: The Countess of Glasgow (in tho chair), Mesdaines Corrigan, Bwen, Beord,' M'Lean, Pousonby, Anderson, Ward, AT Vicar, and Ho.sking, Lady Stout, Misses Barnett, Kirkcaldie, and K-iloy. Several letters had been received by too secretary enclosing subscriptions to the society's fund in appreciation of the good work done by tho l'lunket nurses. These letters'are. most .gratifying to the nurses, being nn evidence of tho resulting from, their v.ery arduous daily work. The monthly report showed a steady increase in tho advantage taken of the nurses' services, and Was most satislaclory. Miss Barnett reported that 180 garments had been distributed during tho last month, chiefly to soldiers' dependants.,';. It-was proposed by Mrs. Bwen, seconded by Laity Glasgow, and agreed to b.v the committee, that a maternity bag o/ batiy garments made from the Phinket patterns bo supplied to tho Richmond free Kindergarten, tho grant of the use of t'iieni to be in tho hands of Miss Riley. I.t was suggested by this committec that Mrs. Cook and Mrs. M'Caw should be alternative members on the Wellington Committee whenever Mrs. Beerd and Mrs. Ewon should not bo ablo .to, attend tho monthly meeting. The' suggestion was agreed to unanimously. Miss Barnett proposed, and Miss Kirk, caldie. seconded, a very hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. C. liichardson for having acted as hon. secretary for the threo mouths that Mrs. Hosking was absent in Australia. . Williamson artists arc to appear in entirely new roles in Mel- j bourne on Tuesday next, in connection with the fund to aid tho Trcnch lied Cross. Myer's department storo will bo given over to the artists for that day, and they will serve behind tho counters to dispose of goods in aid of the fund, which will receive a proportion of the takings.
