. '' —♦ A meeting of the Accountant Students' Society was held last evening, when a lecture was given by Mr. E. D. Bell on tin? subject of "Fxecutorship Accounts in ltelation to Uural Properties." The lecturer dealt particularly with tho difficult question of distinguishing -between capital and revenue, esjiKcially in dealing with live stock. Incidentally, ho touched on some of tho intricate poinW to ho flonsideral in preparing tho return of income for taxing purposes, which tho recent legislation requires farmers to furnish. At the conclusion of his lecture Mr. Bell was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Mr. Gold, swonded by Mr. F. A. >le Barclay.
AMhe quarterly meeting of the Hutt Methodist Churches, the financial report sli'oveiT that the income from the Hutt church was almost' Jl!)0, but there was a small debit balance, owing to the home mission annual collection occurring during the quarter, in addition to tho church anniversary. The sum of Jis Its. lid. had been sent to the military camps. The evening servioes at. Belmont. were reported -to be encouraging, and there was. a decided increase of Sunday School scholars, the total, number 'on the rolls at present being 2.9. about fifteen young men were serving their Empire, and in this connection an honours board is to be erected shortly. Messrs. Walton and Bird were elected as circuit delegates to the Conference Arrangements Committee at Wellington'. The Yonng Worshippers' League has a membership, of 62. .It was decided to secure the services of the. Silver Band for a sacred concert to be held shortly. The lower Hntt Police Court returns for the quarter ended .Tune ■30 are as. follow: —iimoimt sued for, £X>7 125.; amount recovered .£234 12s. lid.; plaints issued, 41; distress warrants issued, 2; judgment summonses issued, G', order for judgment summons, 1; summonses issued, 73; civil fees, .£23 Gs.; males taken into custody, 73; females, 5; criminal fees, .£2l 55.; criminal fines, -£13.
