bo mated with, either Fort'WilHam or Our King. :,..„■ Tho acceptances received-' for 'tho first day's handicaps of tho "Wellington Meeting, to be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday of next week, are most satisfactory, aud good fields will; face tho starter in all tho events. The smallest iield is liino and the biggest twenty. The first ovent on each day will start at 11.30 a.m.. and the usual train arrangements will bo in vogue. . Idealism went wrong after a gallop at Hastings yesterday, aud his trainer was compelled to put the pen through his name for the Wellington Steeplechase.. The veteran. Gisborne trainer P. At Trentham on Thursday morning the Achilles filly Alley was pitted against. Seadown over iivo furlongs. Tho former led throughout, and got to {Tie/ end of the journey in lmin. sscc. This filly has made great improvement of late. Superstition dies hard amongst some ■trainers. Being an off morning, one would have expected a lot of schooling at Trenffiam yesterday, but. not a horse jumped. The fact that it was Friday \yas the cause. Some trainers will not start out for a meeting on a Friday. Toro Toro, runner-up to Bhicstone and Bisogne in tho open five furlongs races at Ellerslie, is engaged in tho'Trial'Plate at Trentham next week. Tho field, as usual, includes several two-year-olds. At Napier on .Tuesday she worked exceptionally well, and greatly pleased her owner, Mr. T.Byrno. Tho most prominent-Refection from the Wellington Steeplechase is El Gallo. Keen disappointment will bo felt at tho absence of tho Great Northern winner, and his defection will be a heavy blow to many who relied upon tho fact that the owner has in the past always scratched his horse immediately on tho appearance of tho weights wlioii ho was not intended to run. Fifteen owners have made the acceptance for tho Parliamentary Handicap out of seventeen nominators. Tho defections are Bluestone, who is not coming to the meeting, and George, who lias ,another engagement on tho opening day. Mr. .T. B. Beid's two-year-old colt, Killjoy, lias no't been harshly treated in tho Mell>ourno Cup. as he lias been let off with 6st. I.llb.
