INSURING SOLDIERS' LIVES

WAE BELIEF ASSOCIATION PROPOSAL. Some little time ago the Wellington War Belief Association sot up a special committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. J. Hutchesou, C. M. Luke, and L. 0. H. Tripp, which waited upon tho Minister of Internal Affairs witu reference to the insuring of soldiers' lives, following that interview the association forwarded the following letter to.: tho Minister:—"Sir,—Beferring to the interview which a special sub-committee' from this association had witli you on 23rd ult., I wish to place tho matter of insurance policies before you for consideration. Several applications have been received for assistance towards payment of premiums 011 policies. "(a) Takeu out before the" outbreak of war. "(b) War policies carrying a special loading taken out by men who felt it their duty to nuike some special provision in tho event of their death nt the war, or as a result of injuries or sickness. "(c) Several women have fiad insurance premiums left to be paid nftor their husbands have departed, and this means an extra burden for which no provision was, made beforehand by the husband in the way of an extra allotment, or an appropriation of cash for the purpose. "This association is of the opinion that in certain cases the Government should undertake the pa.vmont..of the premiums, especially ou policies taken out before tho outbreak of tho war, and where tho financial position of the dependants makes tho payment of 6nch premium a strain on their resouroes. It is held that tho State owes more to a man who has by his past lifo shown himself to bo thrifty by attempting to mako p:o----vision by life insurance than to a man who has not shown such a desire. "The committee also submit to jou that if a man ou enlisting is willing to provide insurance for his family, that tho Government should assist by paying tho special premium for war risk.—William I'erguson, chairman."
