MAIL MATTER FOR NEUTRAL COUNTRIES

AND FOR SOLDIERS. Widespread misunderstanding appears to have arisen as to'tho effect of the decision recently arrived at regarding the dispatch of newspapers and other printed matter to neutral countries. It was intimated that such matter could only bo forwarded by publishers, who would obtain permits from tho Chief of tho General Staff. The decision does not interfere in any way with the transmission of newspapers or other matter within the British Empire, or other Allied countries, such as France, Russia, Italy, and Japan. All classes of mail matter will continuo to be forwarded to these countries from New Zealand- as heretofore. Neutral countries, of course, -arc those which arc not engaged on any side in the present war. Another misconception which has arisen refers to the transmission of papers to members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. A rumour has gono abroad that such papers are either detained in Wellington or destroyed. The postal authorities advise that there is no foundation whatever for the rumour. All classes of mail matter for members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forcc continue to be forwarder! in. mails dispatched regularly from Wellington. The public would do well to continuo addressing articles to tho care of G.P.0., Wellington. . The Post Office' undertakes to see that letters and other articles are forwarded by the best available route. If senders insist upon addressing lotters to France, England, Egypt, etc., the Post Office has no option but to forward such letters in tho mails to tho countries to which they are nddrcsseil. If however, "C.o. G.F.0.. AVellington," is added in each ease to tho usual address, tho article will be forwarded in tho closed, mail mado up for the Officer Commanding the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
