FEDERATION OF LABOUR CONFERENCE
OPENING SESSION.-. ?lio annual conference of the United Federation of Labour opened in the Alexandra Hall yesterday morning. Mr. John' Doivgray, president, occupied the chain , Delegates representing the following affiliated unions were present Auckland Gas Co. Employees' Union, Dunedin Tailoresses' Union, Christchurch Tailoring Trades Union, Christchurch Bootmakers' Union, Otago Typographical Union, Auckland District Council, Canterbury District Council, Otago . District Council. Canterbury Printers' Machinists' Union, Christchurch Musicians' Union, Canterbury Coachworkers' Union, Auckland Painters' Union, Inangahua Miners' Union, Canterbury General Labourers' Union, AVellington Bootmakers' Union, Auckland-Builders and General Labourers' Union, Otago 'Timber Workers' Union, Christchurch Tramways Union, Poverty Bay Distriot Council, H&wko's Bay District Council, Chrisiclinrch Iron and Brass Moulders, Canterbury Tanners and Fellmongers' Union. The chairman welcomed the delegates, and expressed the opinion that the conference was capable of some good work, lie was pleased to say that the delegates were representing a larger membership than previously. Tt was decided to exclude the ' Press, with the exception of tho "Maoriland Worker," a committee being l set up to compile a Press roport of (lie proceedings. The hours of sitting were fixed as •>'ows:—9.3o to 12.30' a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. The annual report and balance-sheet, whioh showed tlie-federation to be in a vory satisfactory condition, was adopted, An order paper committee was set up to revise tho' agenda paper.
