ALL-FOR-EMPIRE LEAGUE
OFFICERS ELECTED. A. meeting of 'the committee of tho abovo louguo was held at the Chamber of Commerce last evening (air. P. W. MaJiton presiding), for tho election of officers and other business. Apologies for nnn-atloiulaneo wore read from tho Prime. Minister and Sir Joseph Ward, tho Hon. W.- 11. Hcrrios, tho Hon. .Dr. M'Nab, Messrs. Ti. A. Wright, and T. M. Wilfred, M.IVs ,anil. others. Letters wero also read .from Colonel .1. J. Wheeler, lion, secretary of tho Hawke's Bay branch of the Anti-German League, and from Mr: W. M'Konzie, secretary of tho Palmcrsbon North Cliamber of Commerce, ro deputations from the AU-fo.r-Empi.ro League; concerning which it was .stated that speakers would be forthcoming, and the election of officers was then proceeded with. Mr. .Tames Macintosh was elected chairman of tho committee, and Mr. F. W. Manton, vice-chairman; Messrs.' A. ,T. Carlton, E.~ A. .Tames, and E. W. Hunt wcro elected as general .secretary, literary r secretary, • and treasurer respectively; anil the following sub-com-mittee wis set up to revise the objects a,ml draft; the constitution of the league, viss., Messrs. J. G. Harlcness, C. B. Morison, S., Jacobs, M. Myers, A. J., Carlton, E. T. J3. Dawson, D. A. Ewon, James Macintosh, F. W. Manton, and M. A. Carr (five to form a quorum). It was decided to present the resolutions earned, at tho Town Ilall meeting on Empire Day to Ministers at a date to bo ar-. ranged, the sub-committee to meet on Wednesday afternoon at .1.80, and to then arrange the matters to be brought forward by tho deputation and tho speakers. The meeting throughout was very enthusiastic.
