R.IVERINA. FEOM SYDNEY. . . After what is claimed to be the fastest trip for quite a little time, the Riverina arrived in the stream from Sydney at about 6 o'clock yesterday morning. The Riverina's actual steaming time "was three days 15J hours. The vessel berthed at No. 1 south shortly after 7 o'clock. The voyage was devoid of incident, and moderate -weather was experienced. Among tho vessel's cargo were transhipments from the following vessels:—Akita Maru, Katoomba, Montoro, Sonoma. Komnru, Somerset, Aki Maru, Wyandra, Zunoakgi. and St. Albans. 1 • Tho Riverina will leave for Lyttelton this evenipg, and will return on Thursday in time to leave for Sydney at 5 p.m. that day. THE STAR OF AUSTRALIA. Captain Hart, master of tho liner Star of Australia, which arrived at Wellington on' Sunday from London, via Australian ports, Auckland, and Napier; has with him the following officers:—Chief officer, Mr. A. The Minister of Marine has authorised an inquiry into the wreck of the scow Southern Isle, and has written to the Nelson Magistrate to make arrangements. When these are completed, assessors are to be appointed, including one with Epecial experience of scows. Mr. ,T. Wallace, second engineer of tho Riverina, who has been on holiday leave, has rejoined his ship. Mr. H. J. Crockford. -who lias heen relieving second, will rejoin the Ulimaroa, which he previously left owing to sickness. Shaw, iSa.vill, and Albion mail steamers from London have for som© time past made a first''call at Wellington to land passengers and mails, and then proceeded to Auckland to commence discharge. This arrangement is now altered, and m future liners -will make Auckland their first port in the Dominion. The, flrsj boat to inaugurate the new order of things will be the Talnui, due at the northern port on Thursday next. Ihe Taiuui should reach Wellington on July LS. The Perth, with . coal from Newcastle, via Nelson, should make this port, about Thursday or Friday. The Kgakuta, alter working out her cargo of coal, is to go on tho slip for overhaul. She should be ready for sailing next Saturday. The Kia Ora now at Timaru is to leavo that port on Wednesday for Lyttelton. Two days late owing to bad weather, tho Ripple is due from Gisborne'to-day. She will not get away until to-morrow, and then only for Napier (inner harbour), cutting out Gisborne. . The wori; ot rucommissioning tho Wakatn is taking much longer than was anticipated. She was to have coramenccd running yesterday, but will not now get away until Thursday next. The Kauri arrived in from Wcstport shortly after midday yesterday. On completion of her discharge of coal she returns to Westport to load for Auckland. The Calm is expected from Wangaiiui this morning. She will leave, for southern ports this evening. . The F. and S. liner Middlesex is due to return to Wellington to-day from southern ports. It was expected that she would leave Lyttelton about 9 o'clock last The Kowhxi is fixed to load at Wellington on Thursday for New Plymouth. She should 6how up from Timaru to-morrow night. It is hoped that the Kowhai' will lift all the accumulated New Plymouth cargo. . Due in from Napier this morning tho Monowai has 480 tons to discharge before proceeding to southern ports this evenin" Owing -to repairs the Monowai -will not leave Dunedin for northern ports until Saturday night—one day late.. She will consequently not leave Wellington until Tuesday, July 11, instead of Monday a« is usual. . . ■ The Corinna is due m from New Plymouth to-morrow.
