Exemption from Rent Payment. Applications for exemption .from payment of rent under Seotion 23 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1915, were dealt with as under:—A. E. Correspondence; Etc. Tho Commissioner submitted - a plan showing Sections 16, 17, 18, 19, anuV 20, Block IV, Kaitiekß, areas 6 acres to b acres 0 roods 37 perches,, and it-was resolved to offer them under the Land Act, 1908, at the prices recommenced by the surveyor, ,; ' , , The Patea County Council submitted a scheme of expenditure of "thirds accrued to the council to March 31 last.! An application from C. Boote was received for land south of OwhangO: and it was resolved to advise him that all the land available there is required fo* discharged soldiers, and that at present there is none available for disposal otherwise. , ' ■_'.., . With Tegard to the l6ts in the Wilford Settlement, which wore recently _ withdrawn, from. sale, as required, by Section 43 (2) of-the Land Laws Amendment Act,. 1913, it was resolved to reoffer them tor sale and lease on the same terms' as previously fixed. Sections-4 and 5, Block XIII, to be grouped as one lot. . With regard to the lota in • Hawtrey I Settlement, which were recently withdrawn from sale as required by Section 43 (2) of tho Land Laws Amendment Act,1913, it was resolved to" re-offer theni for sale (except Section 18, Block III) on the 6am'e terms as previously fixed. .. Mrs. Tacon applied for an area of 23J acres, formerly part of Section 18, Block 11, Hunua S.D., .and-it was resolved to decline her ' application. W. Rainsford renewed his application for Section' 21, Block HI, Kaitieki S.D., 117 .acres 0 roods 7 perches, and it was resolved to divide'.the section-by a practicable fencing line, and allot :part to applicant and add remainder to section. W. Booth and Co. applied to be allow-ed-to discontinue milling operations on Raketapauma' for' a period of about' six months so as to enable, them to. provide better accesß, and it was resolved to approve. The same firm applied for'a license' to' mill the timber in Raketapauma Block,, north of Wautapu.Streaih," which, is not included in their present license, and it .was,- resolved to adjourn the matter for Ranger's report. • A letter from the Under-Secretary was received with regard to the board's recommendation Of April 27, 1916, re disposal of Section 84,' Block VIII, Belmont S.D., in the Nonnandale. Settlement, and 'it was resolved to. recommend that the sale bo. allowed fo'proceed of all the unsold -sections, in this, .settlement for .cash and deferred payment by auction at the reduced' prices fixed by the board on March 26, .1915. In continuation of the- board's resolution of May 25 last it'-was resolved to class. Section 2, Block 11, Manganui S.D.; 684 acres, as second-class land, and to fix the price at £2 per acre. Stevens, Henderson and Co. applied for a license to mill tiinber on Sections 11 and 7, Block 11, Hunua S.D., and it was resolved to have the timber appraised and offered by publio. auction. - With reference to'areas of 19 acres and 44 acres in Block IV, Kaitieke S.D., tadjoining mill sitosnear Owhango Station, it was resolved to grant permits' to J. Prouse and A. Carlson to occupy them from year to year respectively at annual rents of and JBIO, subject to the usual conditions.

•Mrs. A. Swain was given leave to sublet Section 117, Block XIV, Belmont (Epuni Hamlet) temporarily in two lots. Jeremiah Hurley, a former tenant of Education Reserve, Section 229, Town of Hunterville,. applied for a.lease of it,- and, offered to pay back- rent at a fair rate.—' Resolved to offer him a year-to-year lease at a rent "of J!2 10s. per annum, subject to arrears being paid up at this rate. ~

Discharged Soldiers' Applications. The following applications by discharged soldiers were dealt- with :-4<V H. Wilson applied for Section 2, Block X, Retaruke, 1114 acres 3 roods. Approved subject to part within Wanganui River Domain being detached if required. R. G. Withington applied to select Section -14, Hall-Jones Settlement, 1 acre, and it was resolved to'grant it on the. deferred payment system. D. Laing applied to select Section 21, Block IV, Kaitoke, 103 a, approximately, and it was resolved to grant Section 22 subject, to tramway rights required. W.'G. Wise applied to select Section 2SG, Raetihi SnWba,. 6 acres 26 perches, and it was resolved to ■proclaim under Section 4 of the Act and allot it to tho applicant at a price to bo fixed by Ranger. G. L. Brett applied to select Section 29, Hall-Jones Settlement, 1 acre 3 roods 21 perohes, and it was.resolved that tho application be granted.
