Yesterday's proceedings in connection with the visit consisted chiefly of official calls. The senior naval officer in port, Paymaster Brown, made the first call, and after that Mr. T. Young (Japtaese Consul) and Brigadier General Sir Alfred i Robin called. In the afternoon, AdmiralMatsuinura called on t'ho Governor,' the ■ Prime Minister, and the Mayor (with . whom were the chairman and members of the Harbour Board). Tho visits wero repaid later, His Excellency making his official call at about ,4 o'clock. 'The Adi"irn.l was rrcompanied on his visits 'by . Captain S. Hyakntake, Captain E. lida, and . Lieut. Noguchi. The Fifth Regiment provided the guard of honour, and ware aocompanicd by the Trentlinm Band • This morning, the visiting "admiral will ibe accorded au>,official reception at the lown .Hall. A programme of entertainment for the visitors has been prepared, and the city intends to make their stay ■ a pJsasant one. At the Wellington Orphans' Club's korero to-night, the Japaneso officers will .ba tno guests of tbe club. ;
Tho .street • between Coilrtenay v Place and tho Opera House wss crowded last evening to witness some of the men from tho Japanese training' ships, mcored at Clyde Quay Wharf, maxch to the Opera House. The mareh music w-as supolfed ftr own -band, which played ex. cellently, and.among other marches-play, od the Japanese National Anthem. 1
