'TIRAILLEURS DU PACIFIQUE.'
NAME FOR TAHITIAN '.. . AND NOUMEAN TROOPS. A Noumea correspondent of the Sydney "Herald" reports that "Tirailleurs du Pacifique" is tho title applied to a corps of Pacific islanders which the Trench are preparing for service. Referring to the Loyalty Islands section of the corps, the. correspondent says:—"These natives aro born, warriors, and seem'well content with' the prospect of satisfying their thirst for battle. It is thought that the great precision they "attain in throwing one of their native weapons will maVe them valuable as bomb-throwers. Most of the natives speak good French. Thev are looking forward eagerly to their stay in Sydney. It is honed that it will not be too cold for them, and that their pleasure will not he marred by the mistaken compliment of offering them drink. Their. uniforms are attractive and appropriate, being tight-fitting blue dangajec and red flannel sashes. Some Me specimens of manhood will be noticed among thbm, and . they are as" brave as they are good-100 king.
