Mv. A\. G. Biddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when the following civil business was dealt with:— CLAIM FOB POSSESSION. The Wellington Tramways' Union proceeded against William 'Charles Noot, late of the union, for possession of a collecting book, the value of which was 3s. Cd. ill'. 11. F. O'Leary, who appeared for the union, stated that several demands hud been made for tho book without result. It was only of small value, but it was necessary for earning out the work of tho union. His Worship gave judgment for plaintiffs, and ordered defen-l dant to produce the book bpforo.U'o-mor-iw morning; in default .to pay the cost of book and court costs, 7s. RENT OF A PRIVATE HOSPITAL. -Margaret Brown llill, for- whom Mr. C. W. Tringham appeared, claimed from Letitia Maud Fitzgerald (Mr. A. Dunn) the sum of £22 15s. as rent for a private hospital in Oriental Bay. Defendant admitted the claim and paid ilO 15s. into court, but disputed the balance as it was' alleged that certain repairs had been effected at her expense. Defendant counter-claimed the sum of .£l2, the alleged cost of repairs. His Worship gave judgment for plaintiff for .612 over and above the JSIO paid into court. On tho counter-claim, However, judgment would be given for Fitsgerald for .£!) 55., with costs ,£4 17s. JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT. Cooper, S.M., when the following cases were dealt with:— Agnes Dryden was fined 10s., in default 48 hours' detention, for insobriety. Robert Goulett, charged with damaging a platoglass window valued at £15, the property of George Itadford, appeared on remand. Inspector Hendrey stated that the damage had been assessed at £7-7s. 9d. Accused was convicted and discharged and ordered to nuiko good the damage. Earl Skinner appeared to answer a serious charge which it was alleged he hnd committed against a little girl at the Lower Hutt. Mr. P. W. Jackson, who (ippeared for accused, asked for a remand. This was granted, his Worship fixing bail in accused's own recognisance of .£IOO, and one surety of <£100 or two of .£SO each. For having committed ft grossly indecent act in Kelburn Avenue, John M'Cormick was fined .£2, in default seven davs' imprisonment. For insobriety lie was fined 10s., in default 48 hours in gaol. A fifteen-year-old boy appeared at the Juvenile Court charged with tho theft of three electric light globes, tho property of Thos. Ballingcr. After severely admonishing tho lad, the Magistrate ordered him to report to the probation officer onco a week.
TRAMWAY UNION FEDERATION a A meeting of delegates from tramway unions was held yesterday. Mr. H. Carter, of Auckland, was voted to tho chair. Other representatives attending were Messrs. P. .Richardson (Auckland), A. C. Christesan and E, Evans (Wellington), C. JI. Stewart and Hiram Hunter (Christchurch), and the ltev. J. K. Archer (Invercargill). It was proposed that the Tramways Federation, should bo resuscitated, with headquarters at Auckland for the ensuing twelve months, tho Executive Committee of the Auckland TTnion to he the federation executive, but tho matter was reierred to the committee. Tarious other motions relating to the construction and machinery of the new body were aciopted.
