WATERSIDE WORKERS
ilr. t'\ Curtice presided over a meeting of the Waterside Workers' Union, held at X store lust evening. There \v;is only a I'nir attendance. Several members were lined and otherwise dealt with for committing breaches of the rules. A number of members were also asked to appear before the executive for having broken the agreement. Jt was decided that the union donate a challenge shield for a draughts tournament. It was decided, in conjunction with the employers, to Mick a ruling of the Court to define the powers of the Disputes Committee in increasing the rate of pay for travelling time to the patent slip. A sum of J;2 2s. was voted to the \Vcstport Workers to assist them to fight an appeal that is pending. It was agreed that the. union donate „£!>( l to the band fund. Sir. .1. Roberts was' elected as the union's delegate to the conference to be held shortly in connection with the Miliary Service Bill. .Mr. D. Smith was elected returning officer, and Messrs. Carlson and Jurvis were appointed scrutineers for the forthcoming elections.
