THE NAVY LEAGUE

A meeting of the special executive of the Navy League pes held last night in reference to the visit of the Japanese Training Squadron. A letter from the Mayor (president g£ the league) was received; inviting the league to co-operate with the council in the entertainment of the visitors while in port. His. Worship intimated that tho council, . the Mayoress, and a committee of ladies had arranged to entertain the men. on Wednesday .'afternoon and evening, and that tram trips were' being organised. From inquiries made, it appeared that the Admiral and his officers were being well provided for, and the league decided upon entertaining the naval cadets, numbering; about ninety, subject to official' approval. An "afternoon" is suggested for Monday or Tuesday, and Mr. R. K. Lyon has been asked to arrange for a few musical and other items suitable. for tho afternoon. ' A similar function, carried, out by the , league when the Japanese cruiser squadron was visiting Wellington some eight yeare ago had.proved very successful; A reception is being held by the Mayor and City Councillors in tho Concert Chamber of the Town ;Hall, on Saturday morning at eleven; in honour of the visitors. Officers of the Navy League and their wives are asked to attend.
