WAR NEWS
PROTEST IN THE HOUSE. Tie quality of the cable news supplied to the Press of the Dominion was caus; tically commented on in the House ot Representatives yesterday afternoon by Mr. T. M. Wilford, who asked tho Prime Minister to outer a.dignified, protest to the people concerned. "The kind ot nauseating piffle cabled out this morning in regard to the Anzaes," said Mr. Wilford "is not the kind of stutt that-.. New Zealand wants. It is the typical kind of news that wo are getting Dr. Thaeker: Malcolm Boss. Mr Wilford: No; ii has nothing to do with Malcolm Ross. L«t ns be fair. It is typical of the stuff that Phillip Gibbs wrote for tho "Daily Chronicle," and of which there is a-great deal in his book, "The Soul of the War. I cannot , heJp thinking that this Rhows that Phil--" lip Gibbs thinks this is the kind of stuff we want, and I want a dignified protest made by the Prime Minister against this nauseating stuff. ~-,,,, -, The Prime Minister replied that us would be glad to look into the subject mentioned. So far he had to admit that he had not been able to look at the morning papers owiug to pressure of business. Ho knew perfectly well that a very great deal of the so-called news with regard to our troops and with regard to the war sent out from Britain was not worth appearing in print. It was a waste of time and a waste of money. Five out of tho 6ix war telegrams that came to himself from the High Commissionerwere not worth oponing, and a very great caving might be made. Ho would- look into tho matter and see if any action could be taken.
