'Mr. E. B. Bnrdekin, who for tho past IS years has been Deputy Official Assignee at Napier, has received notice of his transfer to the position of chief clerk at tho 'Wellington Distriot Office. Major G. Crawshaw has been appointed president of tho Hawke's \Bay District Officers' Club.
Second-Lieutenant K. B. Dayies has been appointed acting camp adjutant at Papawai camp.
Mr. Gr. A. Lawrence was appointed Municipal Milk Inspector at last night's meetiug .of the City Council.
Yesterday afternoon Mr. W. R. Morris, Secretary of the Post anH Telegraph Department, on behalf of the officers of tho General Post Office, presented a gold albert to Mr. J. C. Williamson, formerly chief clerk of the Department, who has recently been appointed Chief Postmaster at Auckland. Mr. Morris referred to the confidence reposed in Mr. Williamson by tho executive officers, and expressed the wishes of his old associates for success in his new poition. Mr. Williamson responded, referring in very happy terms to old-time experiences.
A privato cable message from London announces the death at Eastbourne, England on Tuesday last, of Air. Malcolm Macphcrson, formerly general manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. The late Mr. Macpherson, who wa6 over 70 years of age, was born in I Scotland, and after the death of his father he settled in Canada, first of all becoming a school teacher, and subsequently following mercantile pursuits. He came out to New Zealand a great many years ago, and was in partnership with his late brother (Mr. J. Drunimond Macpherson) in the ownership of a sheep station in Canterbury. Later he joined Messrs. Peter Cunningham and Co., Christchurcli, and while with that firm was appointed in 1895 "eneral manager of tho Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, a position which he retained until April. 1905. He then went to live in England, but had since paid a visit to New Zealand and Canada. Mr Macpherson has left a widow but no, children. relative in the Do--minion is a nephew. Mr. C.-TT I. Mac-__ pherson, of tho head office of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Wellington. Rifleman Edward Henry M'Crae, who is reported to have been wounded in action in Trance, is a son of Mr. David MCrae, the well-known mattress manufacturer, of Parish Street, Welhngwro.lhe wounded man, who was in his .fathers employ, was a member of the Third Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. His wound-a flesh one in the thWi-is said to bo only a slight one. Mr James Nicholson, of the firm of Mace' and Nicholson returned from a health trip to Honolulu this week, and left for Sydney, en route to Queensland, by the Moeraki yesterday afternoon.
