SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING
BIG MEETING TO-NIGHT. The early closing of liquor bars during the period of the. war is receiving a large amount of attention just kow. Petitions from 100,000 persons have been presented to Parliament. The M to 'A Committee has had eight full sittings to consider and take evidence for aud against—numerous appeals havo been made, and resolutions adopted by churches and other organisations. The citizens of Wellington are asked to meet in tho Town Hall this evening to consider and adopt resolutions on tho subject. There is to bo a strong platform, the churches being especially well represented. His Lordship Bishop Sprolt, tho Rev. Dr. Gibb, and Commissioner Hodder, of the Salvation Army, btc amongst tho advocates of tho reform. Dr. Now. man, M.P., Councillor John Hutcheson, and Dr. Plntts-Mills will stato tho caso for the citizens generally. The promoters of tho meeting are sanguine that there will bo a largo gathering. During tho evening a collection will bo taken lip to assist tho Navy Fund, which is of all the assistance, that an appreciative patriotic people can give.
