FINE RESPONSE GATHERING OF THE 18th DRAFT DOMINION'S ANSWER So far as the mobilisation of the EiffhReinforcements has proceeded everything is reported to bo satisfactory. Not only; is the draft a full one, but there are more men than -were actually called for.
'l'he Wellington Military District sont in .15 more infantry than the number asked for. Infantry and n.c.o's camo from tile groups of the Wellington, district as follow :— Men N.c.o.'s for for 18th.' 20th. City and suburbs 205 21 Manawatu and Wanganui 167 ,*) Hawke's Bar and Poverty Bay 88 1 Wairarapa 95 3 Taranaki 145 1 700 29 ' Of the district's surplus of 55 infantry, six were rejected in camp, so the not surplus is 4!). Although the district as a, whole is in a. strong, position, the Hawke's BayPoverty Bay group is thought to have sent less men than the number required of it. The Auckland District is reported to be ooming in troll, and no shortage is expected. Canterbury telegraphed yesterday that its quota was full, and that it had fifty men over. There is no news from Otago. Yesterday the following men went; to camp from the city group:—H. N. Sutherland (infantry), A. T. "Edwards (infantry), W. J. Duff (ambulance), J. D. Anderson (artillery), G.. S. Jeffs (artillery). The latest men to be enrolled in the city as fit for active service are:— A. Diamond, seaman, city. T. Mee, fireman, city. E. C. Donnelly, horse dentist, Palmer6ton. W. A. Lambert, carpenter, city. W. Crotch, billiard-marker, city. H. G. Stringer, dispenser, Ngaio. F. King, steward, city. A. T. Lamont, night watchman, city. D. Davies, labourer, city. W. R. Finn, storeman. city. W. E. Morrison, wharf labourer, city. A. P. Kellaway, carpenter, city. C. W. Symes, labourer, Petone. N. G. Hamilton, Civil Servant, oity. L. Harris, farmer, Martinborough. G. E. Harris, farmer, Martinborough. A CANTERBURY SURPLUS. TO BE DEALT WITH IN WEL-' LINGTON. By Telegraph—"l-'ress Asociatuu Christchurch, June 28. On the Christchurch draft, for the Eighteenth assembling to-, .night 41 men were requested to. withdraw and go .forward with the Nineteenth. Colonel Chaffey, Officer Commanding the Canterbury District, intimated that in consequence of all tho men notified having turned up, the draft ■was over strength, and he would ask 41 to volunteer to atay behind. Cries of "No! no!" and hoots, was the response from the men. Colonel Chaffey: "If there aro no volunteers, I shall have to call out the names .of those who c.ime in last, and they will have to go out." There were more' Cries of "No! no!" and entreaties not to be left behind. Colonel.Chaffey: "Well, bojs, I cannot sort you out hero. You will all go to Lyttelton, and you will havo to bo sorted out there." Voices: "We aro all going." On artiral of the draft ,at Lyttelton it was found "that there was accommodation. on tbe steamer for all of the men, and the local authorities decided to send them on and lot the surplus number bo i dealt with by headquarters in Welling-, ton in . the morning.
