River Demonstration Farm', in the Northern Territory, has returned to Victoria. He states that ho resigned the nianagership on account of the attitude'of the Administrator, Dr. Gilruth, i.nd of—in his opinion—the utter hopelessness of the settlement over being in the least degree (i success. Ho declares that most .of the settlers were induced to go there by the roseate prospects which had been conjured up by the Administrator, and that they have already abandoned their holdings, leaving their 6tock, . implements, and houses, to avoid complete ruin. Recontly, said Mr. Boys, Dr. Gilruth had reported that things were going well at Batchelor Farm, whereas the manager had reported that things were very bad. THE WRECK OF THE BARQUE MANUNUI. CAPTAIN'S STORYSydney, June 28. ■Eleven of the crow of tlfe' ba'rquo Manunui (408 tons) liave arrived by the French mail steamer. Captain Robertson states that the barque' was wrecked on May 2G near Pelotes Reef, Surprise Island. After discharging coal at Noumea, she was proceeding to Surprise-Island to load guano for Auckland. A strong current set the vessel on n reef. The mainmast fell and the vessel turned on Rer beam ends and became a hopeless wreck. The crew stood by until daylight, when they were forced to abandon the vessel. They wero rescued by the manager of the island. The next day tho vessel began to break up.
