EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION

_ NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY. From next month the constitution of tho Wellington Education Board is to undergo a drastic change, consequent upon the decision of-the Government to reduce tho number of boards in the Dominion. Under the rearrangement of education district boundaries, Wellington has to take in Marlborough (with its 9!) scattered schools), so that for the futu.re the supervision of that area will demand a closer relationship between the two sides of Cook Strait than has hitherto been tho case. For the purposes of the election of the new board, which for the future will consist of twelve members (instead of nine), tho district has boon divided into five wards—one (Wellington City) returning four members, and tho other four wards two members each. The Marlborough district is one of these wards, and has tho same representation ns the Wairarapa or Huttl'otono ward.

Noniinaiions close at tho Education Board's office at 5 o'clock this evening. Up till 5 o'clock lost evening the following nominations had been received Wellington Urban Area (four members required).—Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., Tlios. Forsyth, Wm. Allan, C. M. Luke, A. H. Hindmarsh, M.P., R. A. Wright, M.P., and Mrs. W. A. Evans. Hutt-Potone Urban Area (two members required).—Messrs. 1). M. Yeats, Geo. T. London, and E! P. Rishwortli. Mo6s. , , Marlborough Ward of tho Rural Area (two mombcrs).—Mr. E. H. Penny. It will be seen that out of the five districts an election is assured in three, and up till yesterday afternoon the required number of candidates only had been nominated for tho Wairarapa, and there was a nomination short for Marlborough. . ~ , . , Though the nominations close to-day, tho election does not tako place .until July 1!), and in the.case of a contest tho count of votes does not take place until August 2.
