THE SICK & WOUNDED

TO GO TO ENGLAND DISTRIBUTION OF-GIFTS. His Excellency the Governor has received telegrams from the Secretaries of State for War and the Colonies, advising the New Zealand Government that the Imperial Governinont has decided that (ill New Zealand troops at present serv-. iiig' in Franco who may bo sick or wounded Till bo ovacuatod to tho United Kingdom. In cases where men are not 'ablo to return to the firing line, they will be sent back to New Zealand by hospital ship--"; or transports. Tn respect to the New Zealaiid_ troops who are serving in Egypt, and wiio may be sick or wounded, these wITI "also be evacuated to the United Kingdom in oases where they are likely to suffer from the climate, or require special treatment. The Governor has been in correspond-, enoe both with the Secretary of State for the Colonies and with the New Zealand War Contingent Association, and after .discussion with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence it is suggested that, so far as New Zealand troops in France are concerned, it appears that the services of the Jfew Zealand War Contingent Association would be the best channel to utilise for distribution of gifts for men, in tho firing line and Bed Cross goods. This association will have the opportunity of reooiving the advice, of Brigadier-General Richardson (who commands all New Zealand troops in the United Kingdom) and of tho General Offioer Commanding the Australasian troops in the field, who will advise as to-the beet means of distribution. Such gifts can be sent as hitherto by transports, and when possible by hospital ships,'but in the latter case only Red Gross goods can be dispatched. .Opportunity will arise from time to time to send gifts to the New Zealand troops in Egypt, and these can also be sant by transports and consigned to the Offioer Commanding tha New Zealand Base country.
