CONFERENCE CONCLUDED. Tho Public Sorvico Association Conference was brought to a close yesterday. Tlio following remits were passed:— That tho Government bo asked to amend tho Public Servico Act by providing for an Expert Division. That tho Commissioner be asked to provide that service in tho Defence force which is allowed to count for superannuation bo allowed for long servico increment as provided in regulation No. -20S. ■ - ■ That camp allowance to Public Works engineers bo 4s. per day (as to Public Works overseers) instead of 3s. per day as at present. \ That the Minister of Justice ho asked to amend Section 2 (b) of tho Magistrates' Courts Amendment Act, 1913, to read:— "He lias been continually employed as n clerk in a Magistrate's Court for a period of at least ten years, and is a barrister or solicitor."
It was resolved that the Public Service Association affiliate with the Council of tho New Zealand Stato Services' Association.
The president, senior vice-president, and general secretary were elected to represent the association on the council.
The following executive officers were elected President, Mr G. Allport; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. M. Wright and 0. R. C. Robieson (Wellington), T. P. Gilfedder (Auckland), P. 13. Webb (Christcliurch), J. Miliar (Dunedin); lion, general secretary, Mr. P. W. Millar; lion, general treasurer. Mr. B. C. Dallard; auditor. Mr. 6. C. Smith; solicitor, Mr. A. M. Myers; Executivo Committed, Misses G. M. Palmer and G. Morris, Messrs. T. E. Roberts, A. Burgess. T. H. Sherwood. G. H- Lightfoot. V Jordan, W. W. Cooi%, E. P. Hawthorn, G. Ward, G. Miller, J. H. Chapman, and D. Mackay.
In the afternoon the delegates waited upon the Public Servico Commissioner to nresont the remits. passed during the conference. The '"president exnl'ained tlio purport, of tho various resolutions at length, ai'<l was "accorded a most attentive and courteous hearing. The Commissioner assured the council that Hie remits would receive his own and Us colleagues' very careful consideration, and tho delegates withdrew to resume further business. After the election of officer*, k resolution wag pnssed expressing the gratitude of tlie cbuncil to their president for his energetic efforts on hehalf of the association dnrirtr tho past year, and also for tho admirable manner in which lie conducted tho conference.
The conference by resolution desired to place till record an oxmwsion of appreciation of the National Government's notion in providing, in resnonse to tlio •representations of the assoeiition. a war bonus for the lower-paid Public Servant.
It is understood that for-married men ill receipt of salaries not more than J2315 per annum, the bonus .represents nonroxim'atelv a 7 per cent, increase in the average salary of such officers.
