THE WORKERS AND THOSE WHO SPEAK IN THEIR NAME.
Sir,—l read in your issue of June 20 particulars of protests made, to the Government in regard to the Military Service Bill then beloro the House by officials of the United federation o£ Lauolir, and the Huxmills Employees' Union. Surely the feelings given expression to in protests above mentioned will.jiot meet with the approval of the majority of tho members of cither body. If tiiey do, then God help any country whose' Governmentcan be influenced by such as they. I have spokcii to a number of people, mostly workers, who, without oxcoption, express disgust at some of the statements made by tho odioials mentioned, and very great approval at the manner in which the Prime Minister replied to their protests.
I state, without fear of contradiction, that in no country in the world are copditions of labour aud wages generally so good aa they are in New Zealand. Theuo will, 1 think, continue; so if the workers, generally will only take an intelligent interest in mutters concerning the work-, er, and not bo led by a lot of agitators who t it' allowed to gain .control, will surely (and Uio woritur# (the great bulk of v.hom are loyal and reasonable) into very serious trouble.
The t'rmw Minister states that the first duty of any Government is the pre. serving of law and order, and it is to be hoped that our Government will not only continue in uphold the. laws ol this country,- but that they will see that disloyal treasonmongers are dealt with before they get large numbers of men who are at present loyul to follow them, -I am. etc., WORKER, Wanganui, -Juno 21.
